Fairfield Food Pantry asking for help as it sees increased need, fewer resources

The Fairfield Food Pantry is in dire need of supplies and food. The pantry is not alone. It’s a struggle we’re seeing nationwide. The food pantry put out an open letter to the community asking for help. There’s been a dramatic rise in need from families, but not enough food on the shelves. It’s a problem that’s being felt by pantries nationwide. Pantries rely on food banks for their supply and with recent federal cuts, there’s been a reduction in the food that pantries receive. We saw just a glimpse of the issue in a practically empty emergency supply room that used to be filled with extra food.This pantry is seeing larger families with anywhere from six to nine people coming in. Business manager Bill Woeste says its federal budget has gradually decreased since last year, now only taking in a quarter of what it used to be. The pantry is thankful for the consistent show of support. But is hoping everyone continues to pay attention to how dire this problem is right now.”It’s not an exaggeration,” Woeste said. “These things are real. They’re real daytime. And our going forward is as a real murky future because before we could kind of depend on our normal sources of income and also our food supply, we can’t do that now because we don’t know what the future holds. So we’re working from month to month, actually week to week in some cases.” Bill tells us that no matter what challenges are thrown the pantry’s way, it will continue to provide for the families who need it.
