Rockstar Reportedly Delayed GTA 6 To “Avoid Brutal Crunch”

The community’s disappointment at hearing the news of GTA 6’s delay to next May soon diffused, and fans have started to speculate on the reasons behind this decision.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier had talked with employees at the studio and none of them believed fall 2025 was a “real” release window for a long time. He recently shared this on Bluesky, offering some insights into the behind-the-scenes conditions at the development team.

“Too much work, not enough time, and what appears to be a real desire from management to avoid brutal crunch. GTA VI slipping to 2026 has seemed inevitable for months if not longer,” he wrote. So, instead of burning to catch up with the release window, Rockstar executives chose to ease the developers’ work by prolonging the final period.

Besides this, Jason also debunked a statement from a Reddit user who claimed to be a Rockstar employee. The user said that the game was delayed purely because of the online mode, which Rockstar wants to be a perfect platform that runs smoothly to accommodate the expected 35 to 40 million players during the first three days of release. They also claim that “the story mode for GTA 6 has been fully finished and playable since January 2025,” which seems not real, as Jason confirmed that it has made some employees laugh.

Regarding the delay, considering Red Dead Redemption 2 suffered from two delays from fall 2017 to spring 2018 before it was finally released in October 2018, some also expect more delays to be announced later.
