It was a record-breaking weekend for the ninth annual Pen City Cruisers car show held Saturday at Riverview Park.
According to some stats shared by Cruisers president Chad Schneider, this year is the club’s 10th anniversary. At Saturday’s show, there were 104 vehicles (a new record) and 78 paid entries (also a new record).
There were 26 club cars and 53 club members in attendance.
Kale and Kole Hudson and their 2016 Charger Hellcat drove the furthest distance, from Fort Campbell, Ky., 445 miles. The Hudsons came to visit family.
Seven cars came from more than 100 miles away, and seven fellow car clubs attended as well.
Schneider’s hope the rain would stay away seemed to be effective, and there were a lot of fans checking out all the cool rides.
The car show is always a fun, popular event, and Schneider said it’s the first show of the year.
“It’s a good way to kick it off for all the car show enthusiasts. It’s a lot of fun because it brings a lot of locals and we bring in a lot of businesses for sponsors. Even the sponsors come down here,” he said, first thing that morning. “I’ve already talked to the police chief, I’ve talked with the fire chief, they’re going to come back and pick their favorite car. It’s nice to get some of the city officials involved too.”
Home Sweet Home Kettle Corn, Hillbilly Haven, Wilson Bros BBQ were also on-site to make sure nobody went hungry.
