Fashion’s big night out is upon us again, and with it, the usual gowns, red lips, and smoulders. Held on the first Monday in May at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Anna Wintour-hosted event is a benefit to raise money for the Met’s Costume Institute.
Each year, the Met ball revolves around a new fashion exhibit. As announced last October, the 2025 gala will celebrate Black dandyism for Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Tonight’s dress code is “Tailored for You”, with A-listers Pharrell Williams, Coleman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and A$AP Rocky joining Wintour as co-chairs.
But while many commentators focus on the fashion, the night’s beauty looks often fly under the radar. As a beauty journalist, I’ll be scrutinising every look – live – to bring you the latest innovations from the famous Fifth Avenue carpet. I’ll work out which MUAs have worked on each star, and bring you the exact products used to create each look from Chanel, Pat McGrath and more.
As always, the Met “invite[s] creative interpretation” on the theme, so I’ll be on hand hour-by-hour to see how (and if) those interpretations translate. Follow along for all the latest looks express from the US. I’ll be posting in real time as the stars step out.
Simone Biles’ hair looks healthy as ever

Having teamed up with K18 to prep, style and finish her sleek and swishy locks, Simone Biles’ hair stylist, Brenton, took inspiration from Josephine Baker’s iconic bang swirl when sculpting the olympian’s sweeping side fringe.
Specifically, her team used K18’s damage shield shampoo (£39, Cultbeauty.co.uk), leave-in molecular repair hair mask (£30, Cultbeauty.co.uk), astrolift reparative volume spray (£44, Cultbeauty.co.uk) and molecular repair hair oil (£27, Cultbeauty.co.uk). It’d be fair to say, we can see the health radiating from Biles’ silky strands.
The secret behind Sydney Sweeney’s Met Gala glow
We’re obsessed with Sydney Sweeney’s entire look for this year’s Met Gala – from the custom Miu Miu gown and her slick back bun to her make-up (the details of which Lucy has shared in a previous post) and golden glow. Speaking of, the secret to her complexion has just been revealed and it’s all thanks to Vita Liberata’s body blur (£33, Boots.com).

Speaking of the look, the actor’s make-up artist, Melissa Hernandez, said: “To finish Sydney’s Met Gala look, I used Vita Liberata Body Blur in Medium to enhance and perfect the skin on her arms and décolletage.” She added that it delivers “the perfect balance of glow and coverage”. I’m sold.
Diana Ross is decked out in jewels from (fore)head to toe

Jewels are quickly becoming central to this year’s Met styling and, who better to execute this trend than the Queen of motown, Diana Ross? The actress-cum-singer accessorised her bold blush and baby-pink lips with an irridescent bindi-jewel atop her forehead.

As if her custom Michael Kors fit wasn’t exciting enough, Megan Thee Stallion stole the show with a three-tiered ponytail that mimicked the style of a 16th century headpiece. Once again, we can see laid edges and – as we’re starting to see on multiple celebrities tonight – a soft wave through the rest of the hair.
Dua Lipa makes a case for laid edges

Texture and juxtaposition was the name of the game for Dua Lipa’s 2025 Met Gala transformation. Walking with her partner, Callum Turner, the singer-songwriter used her hair to accessorise her two-tier Chanel halter dress and framed her face with dramatic laid edges.
Anne Hathaway channels big ’60s hair

Anne Hathaway’s highly-anticipated arrival is underway, and the 42-year-old is styling a 60s beehive ponytail that cascades down the back of her oversized Carolina Herrera shirt. As for make-up Hathaway accentuates her bone structure with subtle contouring around her cheekbones and temples.
Lupita Nyong’o just debuted the suavest brows of 2025

Attending with Chanel, Lupita Nyong’o celebrates Black dandyism with bejewelled eyebrows and a flawless nude lip. The actress wears her hair half-up with the lower portion styled into locs to showcase her natural texture.
Gigi Hadid stuns with old Hollywood-style curls

With a half up ‘do that draws attention to her Miu Miu gown’s halter neckline, Gigi Hadid has stepped out with lofty old glamour curls and cherry-red lips.
Zendaya hides perfect pout beneath wide brim hat

Obscuring her make-up beneath a cream-brimmed hat (that rounds off her tailored suit beautifully), Zendaya executes a masterclass in lip contour with her dark liner and highlighted pout.
Pamela Anderson unveils micro fringe

Pamela Anderson’s minimalist make-up era continues as the star unveils a light blush flush and rosy pink lips to offset the glitz and sparkle of her sculpted dress.
The Last Showgirl actress also revealed a new ‘do with micro bangs and a blunt bob, perfectly swept back with a bejewelled clip.
