Kids set fire to East Helena school playground

EAST HELENA, Mont. – A fire broke out at Prickly Pear Elementary on Friday, set by children not enrolled in East Helena Schools, according to a release from East Helena School District 9.

Faculty member Brandon Crusat and a school custodian were present for a PTO movie night, the school district said. They quickly called 911 and extinguished the fire.

The East Helena Police Department located the children responsible and contacted their parents.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of playing with fire.

“We are thankful to the fire department volunteers and the EHPD, as well as our awesome principal and custodian, for the quick response,” said the East Helena School District 9.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
