Highly anticipated video game delayed: When will it be released?

After years of anticipation, Rockstar Games announced Friday that Grand Theft Auto VI, one of the most awaited video games of the decade, will be released later than many hoped, the company announced.

The release of the game has been delayed to May 26, 2026, Rockstar Games said.

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” the company said in a statement. “The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team.”

Rockstar acknowledged the growing pressure surrounding the next installment of its open-world franchise but emphasized the studio’s commitment to delivering a game that lives up to expectations.

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception,” the statement further said.

While delays are rarely welcomed news for gamers, Rockstar Games stressed that the extra time is needed to deliver the level of quality fans deserve.

The Grand Theft Auto series remains one of Rockstar Games’ most successful in gaming history, the company said. Its last major installment, Grand Theft Auto V, has sold more than 180 million copies worldwide since its 2013 release.
