PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – The WTAP Cares for Kids Food Drive received a large variety of food while stationed in Parkersburg, Vienna, and Marietta.
Tables were set up at Piggly Wiggly located on Gihon Road, Plum Street, and Emerson Avenue in Parkersburg and 23rd Street in Vienna.
There was also a table set up at Warren’s IGA in Marietta.
Volunteers Jerry Smith and Darold Hinzman spent Friday morning sorting through the food collected at all four Piggly Wiggly locations.
Smith estimates the food collected could fill three pick up truck beds.
Smith said he is happy to help kids fight food insecurity.
“It’s just a good feeling to know that you’re able to help somebody and with this, this is just a great way to do it. And you know there there’s not much physical labor involved in it. So, it’s just a good feeling,” said Smith.
Members of the community donated items such as apple sauce, mac and cheese, and juice.
Smith and Hinzman will distribute the food on Monday morning.
