TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – For the entire month of May, those looking to adopt from the City of Tyler Animal Shelter will not have to pay extra costs – that is if they bring 40 lbs of pet food.
The shelter made the announcement Wednesday on their Facebook page where they encouraged people to bring the food to their Pet Food Bank, which is at 4218 Chandler Highway in Tyler. All dogs that are adopted will already be spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date vaccinations. According to the shelter, “the Pet Food Bank was set up so that families in need and those who can’t afford to feed their pets would have a safety net to keep their pets in their homes. Many times, people who want to surrender a pet to Tyler, Texas Animal Control and Shelter only need to overcome a short-term financial hurdle.” Cat litter is also an item that can be accepted to waive fees. Generally, the price to adopt a dog is $120 while cats are $80.
Anyone that is looking to donate can drop of the food/cat litter Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
