WTAP Cares food drive for kids held across MOV Thursday

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – The first WTAP Cares food drive for kids of 2025 was held Thursday around the Mid-Ohio Valley.

The drive was held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all the Piggly Wiggly locations in Parkersburg and Vienna, West Virginia, as well as Warren IGA in Marietta, Ohio.

Hundreds of items ranging from cans of soup, granola bars, juice boxes and more were donated throughout the day.

At the Vienna Piggly Wiggly, more than 200 items were donated. Some people donated several bags of items; others could only donate a small amount. Some people donated cash, which was then used to buy even more items.

All of the donated items are going to local school food pantries to support kids who need help with food after school, on the weekends and during the summers.

Debra Cole of Vienna said people should consider donating because we should all work to make the community a better one for children to live in:

Loretta Sargent of Waverly echoed Cole’s sentiment by saying people should consider donating if they can afford it

In Marietta Ohio, the Store Manager of Warren IGS Mike Morrison said they wanted to help out because of the connection they have with the local food pantries.

The estimated result of the food drive was well over 1,000 donated items. We here at WTAP want to express our gratitude for the support from the community for this event.

Our upcoming food drives will be held on July 3rd, September 4th, and November 7th of 2025.
