SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. — Multiple law enforcement agencies are searching for a suspect who allegedly struck an adult and children with a vehicle before leaving the scene on Thursday afternoon.
The Isle of Palms Police Department stated on Thursday that it was assisting Sullivan’s Island Police in their search for a suspect who allegedly hit two juveniles and an adult just before 1 p.m. Police said that the driver fled the scene on foot and was last seen with a knife. They said he was considered armed and dangerous, with Sullivan’s Island town officials urging residents in and around the Breach Inlet area to remain indoors.
Of the three injured, an adult and one juvenile were taken to an area hospital for treatment. The other juvenile was released to a parent after being treated at the scene.
Police set up a checkpoint on the Ben Sawyer Causeway, which provides access to Sullivan’s Island. They described the suspect as a white middle-aged male who was bald and had a beard. He was wearing a red shirt and shorts. Authorities urged the public not to approach the man and to call 911 instead.
