Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy said in a social media post on Thursday that he’s bringing a new golf tournament to the Ozarks.
The “Internet Invitational” will take place at Big Cedar Lodge in Ridgedale from August 12-16, he posted across Barstool Sports’ social media channels.
The News-Leader reached out to Bass Pro Shops and Big Cedar Lodge for further details but did not receive a response by publication.
Portnoy said his company and Bob Does Sports, an online golf personality, have teamed up to bring a tournament with an event prize pool of at least $1 million, and it will be invite-only.
Among those who will be invited are golf influencers, creators, and internet users who play golf, good, bad, and in between.
“It’s at one of the great golf destinations in the world,” Portnoy said. “This isn’t your mother’s golf tournament. We want bad shots; we want you to feel the pressure. It’s gonna be 30 to 60 of the most well-known golfers, celebrity athletes and internet people with big money and big stakes with us in your ear chirping with a million on the line.”
Portnoy didn’t specify which Big Cedar Lodge golf courses would be used. The resort features five nationally recognized courses. The resort was recently tabbed as the USA Today’s No. 1 golf resort in its Readers’ Choice Awards.
Big Cedar Lodge hosted the PGA Tour Champions Event “Legends of Golf” in the Branson area from 2014 to 18.
The last nationally televised event held on the course was the Payne’s Valley Cup in 2020, when Tiger Woods opened the golf course he designed alongside Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, and Justin Thomas.
