Kansas Children’s Discovery Center’s ‘Mobile Museum’ brings the fun to the kids

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Pine Ridge Prep School and the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center (KCDC) partner up to bring the fun to the kids.

KCDC brought its “Mobile Museum” program to the school on Wednesday, April 30. Marty Hillard with the Discovery Center says the traveling program features smaller, mobile versions of the center’s exhibits that help grow a child’s imagination, creativity, curiosity, and improve motor skills.

Pine Ridge Prep and the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center even invited the Pine Ridge community, students, and families to explore the “Mobile Museum” and how fun it can be for kids on Wednesday evening.

“Personally, it’s incredibly redemptive to know that children still have an opportunity to be children,” said Hillard, recounting the joy he sees from the kids. “I think there is so much discussion in the world today about technology; about devices; about social media, but one thing that I know, that I have learned in this work, is that kids want the same things that we did in previous generations. Kids want an opportunity to play and learn alongside one another. Kids want to be paid attention to. Kids want to be imaginative, and kids want to do all the same things that we have always done forever. I just get such a kick out of seeing that, being exposed to that, and being reminded of that every day.”

Hillard also wanted to thank some donors and partners who helped make Wednesday’s event possible, like FHL Bank, which donated to the Discovery Center, allowing them to hold the evening event for the community as well.
