Don’t Call It a Food Pantry

On any given day of the week, a white Mercedez-Benz Sprinter van covered in colorful images of groceries is on the road somewhere in Knox County and beyond, delivering food aid for the Rockland-based Area Interfaith Outreach. The cargo van, which AIO purchased after a fundraising campaign late last year, is living up to its name.

“There’s very little time that the van is not driving around doing things,” said Program Director Laura McGrath, like running weekend lunches to 600 school-age children, bringing food back to the Midcoast from Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn, or dropping off meals to home-bound residents who are unable to come to AIO’s food market themselves.
