(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Benton High School baseball coach Johnny Coy was awarded an annual local honor Wednesday night.
Coy was named the St. Joseph Sports Inc. 2025 Coach of the Year.
“It’s really humbling,” Coy said. “There are so many coaches in St. Joe that weren’t even nominated, but probably should have been. This is an award for all of the coaches that put so much time and effort into coaching. I’m just happy to be here with so many great coaches.”
The Benton head coach guided the baseball program to a Class 4 state runner-up finish in 2024.
The other Coach of the Year nominees included Bishop LeBlond’s Gregg Mrkvicka, Central’s Callie Farrell, Lafayette’s Josh Walters, and St. Joseph Christian’s Kathryn Runyan.
