Food City supermarket distributes food to local food pantries

BLUEFIELD, Va. (WVVA) -A supermarket in our area is holding a food drive and today they began distributing it.

Food City in Bluefield, Virginia has a promotion called “Friends in Need”.

The food has been collected by customers buying pre-packaged bags with non-perishable items for fifteen dollars.

Today began the time to begin to distribute to two local food pantries.

The bags and several pallets of canned food were loaded into trucks for the Bluefield Union Mission and the Bland Ministry Center.

The common thread with both parties is none of this would not be possible without the help of the community.

“We are community oriented, we do several things throughout the year that stay with our community and this one really allows us to see real close and we see the benefit, we get the comlpliments from our customers on the receiving end of it, they know we are behind it so it makes us feel like a real strong part of the community” says store manager Mike Goodson

Steve Beasley with Bland Ministry Center adds that they are blessed by the community that always comes through for them

“We could not do this without the community, ok. Our partners like Food City and Feeding Southwest Virginia thye help us out incredibly”

If you would like to add a donation to this worthy cause you have until May 13th to buy one of the bags from any Food City location.
