HANOVERTON — United junior Kadin Schonauer was in the zone in the Golden Eagles’ 5-1 baseball win over Leetonia on Monday.
Schonauer struck out 12 in the first four innings and registered a school-record 19 overall in the seven-inning victory. Schonauer gave up two hits with three walks and one hit batter.
United improved to 13-5 and 6-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.
Schonauer broke the school record of 17 strikeouts held by Nevin Hahlen in 2023 and teammate Parker Newburn on Thursday.
Carter Simmons had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Eagles. Cavan Jackson, Schonaur and Wyatt Swanson had doubles.
Schonhauer was in trouble in the top of the first inning as he walked two and hit a batter to load the bases with no outs. He struck out the next three batters to get out of the inning.
The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Schonauer and Quentin Taylor were hit by pitches with Schonauer scoring on a wild pitch and Taylor on Parker Newburn’s sacrifice fly. Cavan Jackson walked and came home on Carter Simmons’ single.
Leetonia countered with its lone run in the second inning. Chase Bondi led off with a single, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch to cut the United lead to 3-1.
Leetonia pitcher Ryan Bulford retired six straight Eagles until Jackson and Swanson hit back-to-back doubles to the fince and Simmons followed with an RBI single to boost the lead to 5-1.
Bulford took the loss and had five strikeouts and two walks.
Leetonia fell to 5-6 and 4-3 in the conference.
The Bears host United on Wednesday.

Southern 6
COLUMBIANA — Hunter Davanzo had a double, home run and four RBIs as Columbiana tripped up Southern 16-6 in six innings on Monday.
The Clippers are 8-9 and 7-2 in the EOAC. Southern fell to 3-8 and 1-6 in the EOAC.
Max Conway added a home run and two RBIs. Reese Roush added a single, double and an RBI. Zane Strohecker had three hits as well. Liam McElwain had two hits and three RBIs.
Brody Brown took the loss with six strikeouts and three walks in 5 2/3 innings.
Mason Pitts had two hits and two RBIs for Southern. Ethan Richards and Brown had doubles.
Southern goes to Columbiana on Wednesday.

Crestview 5, Garfield 4
COLUMBIANA — Isaac Unkefer walked with bases loaded in the seventh scoring Kyle Booth as the Crestview baseball team beat Garfield 5-4 on Monday.
Braden Devine had four hits including a home run and three RBIs for the winners.
Booth had two hits.
Unkefer was the winning pitcher as had struck out one and walked none in two innings of relief.
Crestview is 4-8.
The two teams play again today at Garfield.

Lisbon 16, Wellsville 2
LISBON — Ashton Hinchliffe had three hits and four RBIs to lead Lisbon to a 16-2 win over Wellsville on Monday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Bryce Esarey added a single and a double. Devin Kelly had two hits and two RBIs.
Mason Jones was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.
Lisbon is 6-7 and 3-5 in the EOAC. Wellsville fell to 2-13 and 2-8 in the league.
Leland Monte had a double for Wellsville. Austin Watkins was the losing pitcher with a strikeout and five walks in two innings.
Lisbon will be at Wellsville on Wednesday.
Wellsville is at Chaney today.

STRUTHERS — Ursuline exploded for four runs in the fifth inning to solve Salem 6-4 on Monday at Cene Park.
The Quakers are 1-11, while Ursuline is 8-7.
For Salem, Troy Gibson had three hits, while Colin Riesen added a single, double and four RBIs. Brayden Van Dyne also had a double.
Marshall Boron took the loss for the Quakers with three strikeouts and two walks in six innings.
Salem is at Marlington today.

Cardinal Mooney 11, West Branch 5
BELOIT –West Branch lost its fourth straight as Cardinal Mooney tagged the Warriors for six runs in the fifth inning in an 11-5 win on Monday.
West Branch is 5-9, while Mooney is 10-4.
Charlie Biskup had two hits for the Warriors. Carson Wike had a double and two RBIs.
Jeremiah Thomas was the losing pitcher with two strikeouts and a walk in 4 1/3 innings.
West Branch is at Carrollton today.
