SPRING HOPE — A steady stream of car enthusiasts roamed the depot area on Saturday, eager to feast a collective eye on submissions to the 2025 Spring Hope Classic Car Show.
The event, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, featured about 50 cars along Main and Pine streets — a number influenced by overcast skies, according to organizer Stan Hahnel.
“Last year, we had 126 cars — this year, looking at the weather, you know, it kind of kept the car count way down,” Hahnel said of participant volume. “I mean, last year we were filled all the way — this street, that street, the whole block, the whole square — had five or six vendors out here and selling food and hot dogs and things. But we like it because it’s community.”

CIVIC SPIRIT DISPLAYED
Several traditional organizations worked during the event, including the Spring Hope Fire Department, which hawked hot dogs and sodas to onlookers, and the Girl Scouts, who sold cookies from a tented station fronting First Citizens Bank.
Fresh kettle corn was also available across from the Spring Hope Barber.
Just around the corner, the Lions Club offered free vision screenings in the lobby of One Man’s Treasure Auction House — all part of an open-door look at life in downtown Spring Hope.
“And the thing is … these people, a lot of them are new, have noticed now that we have a new coffee shop,” Hahnel said of attendees getting to know the area. “… the antique place is here, and we also have a lot of involvement with some of these things over here, as far as the Girl Scouts and things of that nature … More than a car show — oh yeah.”
Rocky Mount country radio favorite 98.5 FM WDWG rounded out the fun, broadcasting live throughout the show’s morning wave.
AND THE ‘25 WINNERS ARE …
Reigning supreme over all entrants this year was Fernando Lugo, whose 1955 Chevrolet 250 earned “Best in Show” status. Roddy and Gwen Morgan took second place honors for their 1927 Locomobile, while Charles Perkins III copped third place for his submission of a 1972 Chevrolet Nova.
