Campaign finance reports detail spending for Amarillo city council election

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Candidates and special interest groups have spent almost a million dollars in April on the upcoming city council election.

According to spending reports filed Friday, Political Action Committees did about half that spending, largely on advertising for the candidates they support.

The PACs are fueled by large donations but none larger than Alex Fairly’s DealOn. It gave $230,000 to Save Amarillo supporting Mayor Cole Stanley and his allies.

The group Growing Amarillo Jobs supports mayoral challenger Jason Herrick and took in donations of $10,000 or more from people like Mike Hughes, John Kritser, Richard Ware and the company Caviness Beef Packers.
