Spring sports season starting to wrap up

With the Easter break finished for area schools, the focus turns toward the end of the regular season in some sports and the postseason in others.

Baseball and softball

There’s one more week left in the regular season. Washington wraps up Eastern Plains Conference play against Ayden-Grifton, while Coastal Plains Conference play ends for Northside against Lejeune and Southside against East Carteret.

The state playoffs will be determined on May 5. The state playoffs begin May 6.

Tennis

Washington will be home in the first round of dual team playoffs on Monday. Individual state playoff play begins on Friday.

Track

The Coastal Plains Conference meet is at Northside on Thursday, May 1. Washington will also be involved in the Eastern Plains Conference meet on the same day at West Craven High School.

Golf

Golf regionals will be held on May 5 with Northside, Southside and Washington all expected to be in action. Southside will host the 1A East Regional at Cypress Landing Golf Course starting at 1 p.m. Washington will be at the 2A East Regional at River Bend Country Club in New Bern with East Carteret as the host. It starts at 9 a.m.

Soccer

Southside has conference games at Lejeune (Monday), at home with Jones Senior (Wednesday) and at East Carteret on May 5. The Seahawks also have a nonconference game at Perquimans on May 7.

Washington has a home Eastern Plains Conference game with SouthWest Edgecombe on Tuesday and a road conference game with Farmville Central on May 6. Between those games, the Pack has a road game with Northeastern on May 1.

Pungo Christian Academy

The Raiders will host the baseball, softball and soccer conference tournaments as a prelude to the NC Independent Schools Athletic Association state playoffs. Click here to read more.
