Food trucks come together to host fundraiser for firefighter who lost home in devastating fire

Food trucks came together on Sunday to host a fundraiser for a York County firefighter who lost his home in a devastating fire. A Porters Fire Company firefighter’s home in Heidelberg Township went up in flames on April 3. The home was completely destroyed by the blaze. The firefighter lived in the house with his wife, according to Porters Fire Company Assistant Chief Dean Warner. The couple was not home at the time, except for their cat, which was killed in the fire, Warner said. In efforts to raise funds for the firefighter’s family, a fundraiser was organized by Gill Ice Italian Ice & Ice Cream and the Rose Fire Company on Sunday. Food trucks came together in the New Freedom municipal parking lot on High Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A percentage of the sales will go directly to the firefighter’s family. “Whenever there’s a need, we’re known for giving. So, we just jumped in and called our fellow food truckers and put together this fundraiser to help the Doll family out,” said Myra Gillis, Gill Ice Italian Ice Food Truck Coordinator.
