ELKINS — The Elkins High School Theatre will wrap up the school year with the premiere of its production of “Fast Food” this week.
“Fast Food,” a one-act comedy by Tracy Wells, is “a highly relatable comedy to anyone who has ever had to work in food service,” Elkins High School’s Theatre Director Jennifer Armstrong told The Inter-Mountain.
“From crazy customers, to screwy staff, to hamburger horseplay and, of course, the ever-broken shake machine, this vignette-style collection of scenes will satisfy your craving for fast food fun,” according to the Tracy Wells Playwright website.
The show will run from Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 3. The Thursday and Friday performances will begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
The Saturday performance will be a matinee, beginning at 3 p.m., with doors opening at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for the show can be purchased at the door.
“Fast Food” will wrap up the EHS Theatre’s year, after successful runs of “The Big Bad Musical” in October and William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in March. Armstrong has directed all three shows.
“I wanted something short and silly to end the school year,” Armstrong told The Inter-Mountain. “(The students) are having a good time with it! Rehearsal is filled with lots of laughter.”
While the students are, “as always,” nervous and excited for this performance, Armstrong says she is feeling “very confident.” She credits her confidence in her students’ abilities to handle the material of a contemporary piece, especially after just performing Shakespeare in March.
Armstrong believes that audiences should definitely look out for the “absolutely stellar work” that the Elkins High Theatre prop department has done for the show, stating that those students have worked “very hard.” She also teased that audiences should be excited to see “someone dressed in a chicken suit” during the performance.
When asked what audiences could expect from the Elkins High Theatre in the next school year, Armstrong couldn’t give too much away, but said plans are in the works.
“That’s still confidential,” Armstrong said. “But we will definitely be doing a musical at some point, and at least one classical piece later.”
