Popular fast-food restaurant chain plans to close up to 200 locations

Fast-food restaurant chain Jack in the Box is planning to close 150 to 200 “underperforming” locations in the next few years, according to USA Today.

There are currently around 2,200 Jack in the Box restaurants nationwide, but the majority are located on the West Coast and in the Midwest. The chain is set to close 80 to 120 locations by the end of the year, and the rest will close sometime in the future “based on respective franchise agreement termination dates,” the newspaper reported.

Jack in the Box is also considering selling Del Taco — a Tex-Mex fast-food chain it acquired just three years ago, USA Today reported. Del Taco currently has just under 600 locations across 17 states.

The closures and potential selling of Del Taco are part of the restaurant company’s “Jack on Track” plan to “improve long-term financial performance,” which it announced Wednesday, the newspaper reported. Jack in the Box has not said which locations it plans to close.
