3D Robotics Duluth inspiring kids with STEM skills and Legos

What kid doesn’t like playing with Legos? 3D Robotics Duluth hosted a local FIRST Lego League Explore Festival on Saturday April 26th and the Duluth Depot. More than 20 teams from the Twin Ports Area had kids from Kindergarten to 3rd grade show off their Lego creations.

Students presented their unique, motorized models in a judging session. They received constructive feedback and encouragement in their STEM journey. Each team was presented with an award based on their creativity and accomplishments throughout the season. The festival also included STEM activities and robot demonstrations from local FTC robotics teams.

Amanda Bruno says her two kids got involved with Lego Robotics a decade ago, and they’re still continuing with the program.

“I started when my daughter was a fourth grader, my oldest, and now she is a junior in high school, and my freshman is also doing robotics. So it’s a family affair for us,” Bruno said. “We love it, and it’s a great thing for families to do together.”

Bruno also added that kids in 4th grade and beyond can move up to FLL Challenge for their next level of robotics skills.

“This is the wrap-up for Explore, and then our FTC season will start in the fall. So we just finished a trip to Worlds, and so competition season is done for us,” Bruno said. “You will see us do summer around town and outreach events and doing summer camp.”

This year’s theme is called Submerged and focuses on underwater exploration. To learn more about local opportunities with 3D Robotics Duluth, you can visit 3droboticsduluth.com.
