Just as there are several film franchises based on popular videogames, many television shows have been adapted from popular IP as well.
HBO’s The Last of Us is currently unfolding in its second season, based on the first half of the corresponding Part 2 game created by Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog. Prime Video’s Fallout has another season coming, as does Peacock’s Twisted Metal, which returns this summer.

Twisted Metal – Peacock
Image Credit: Photo by: Skip Bolen/Peacock/Sony TV Peacock’s Twisted Metal series starring Anthony Mackie is based on a series of vehicular combat videogames, and the titular tournament will come back to the small screen this summer. Season 2 premieres on the streamer July 31.
Raven (Neve Campbell) is prepping John Doe (Mackie) for the dreaded tournament. The latest teaser features a glimpse at Calypso, the man who hosts the tournament, as well as a signature laugh from Sweet Tooth the terrifying clown. Stephanie Beatriz also stars in the show.

‘Arcane’ – Netflix

The animated television series includes a star-stacked voice cast including Kevin Alejandro as Jayce, Hailee Steinfeld as Vi, Ella Purnell as Jinx, Katie Leung as Caitlyn, Harry Lloyd as Viktor, Toks Olagundoye as Mel Medarda and more.

‘Fallout’ – Prime Video
Image Credit: Amazon/Courtesy Everett Collection Prime Video’s Fallout starring Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins and more, is also based on a post-apocalyptic, role-playing videogame. The drama series hails from Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, and after Season 1’s popularity on the streamer, the show was renewed for a second installment, which Goggins teased “blows it out of the water.”

‘The Last of Us’ – Max
Image Credit: HBO Based on the Naughty Dog videogame created by Neil Druckmann, HBO has backed an adaptation of The Last of Us starring Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna and, in Season 2, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Danny Ramirez, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, Ariela Barer, Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Wright.

The game hinges on a cordyceps infection that kicks off the game with an outbreak followed by a 20-year gap before Joel Miller (Pascal) journeys west with Ellie Williams (Ramsey) because her immunity to the fungus makes it possible to find a cure for the disease that produces all sorts of mushroom-ridden zombies from Clickers to Stalkers.

‘The Witcher’ – Netflix
Image Credit: Netflix While The Witcher directly adapts the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, there are elements of the show that are influenced by the videogame series as well. The Netflix series contains easter eggs from the games, specifically The Whitcher 3: The Wild Hunt.
