MSHSAA member schools designate Girls Flag Football as emerging sport

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) There is a new sanctioned sport that thousands of girls are playing across the country. 

Girls Flag Football is sanctioned in 15 states and on Thursday morning, MSHSAA officials announced the results of the annual ballot that includes member schools designating the sport as an emerging MSHSAA sport.

There were 271 ‘Yes’ votes and 96 ‘No’ votes.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), about 500,000 girls (6-17) played flag football in 2023.
