Hailey Bieber has had a major year, both professionally and personally. The 28-year-old brand founder and new mother gave birth to her son, Jack Blues Bieber, last August, all while continuing to release hit product after hit product for her beauty brand, Rhode.
“This year has been an incredible year of growth for me,” Bieber tells Bazaar US. “I’ve had the freedom to express myself in new ways. I’ve embraced new opportunities and found new ways to connect with my loved ones.” Over the past year, Bieber has shaken up the beauty industry with launches like Rhode’s Peptide Lip Shapes and Pocket Blushes, and even collaborated with fashion brand Fila.
“I’ve learned that once I put my mind to something, there is always a way,” she says. “I’m just constantly evolving and learning from my own mistakes, those around me, and those I look up to and realising every moment, mistake, obstacle is just another part of life and will teach me something that gets me closer to my goals and aligns me to who I want to be and show up as.”
Through it all, Bieber falls back on her favourite fragrances to ground her, specifically YSL Beauty’s Libre Flower & Flames. “That’s the beauty of YSL Beauty’s Libre: You define what it means to you,” she says. Ahead, we caught up with Bieber about all things fragrances, new-mum life, and how she spends a (rare) free evening.
What does freedom mean to you, especially as a mother and brand founder?
Freedom means just living my life as authentically as possible and being honest about where I’m at in the moment.
What does a free night look like to you, whether that’s with a night in, a date night with your husband, etc.?
A free night can be so many things: getting cozy on the couch and watching a movie or favourite show, a fun girls night out, or a cute date night.
Has your fragrance taste changed over the years? What types of fragrances do you gravitate toward today?
As I’ve grown, so has my taste in fragrances, but scents still transport me back to certain memories or experiences, and I love that. I have a good rotation of perfumes I love, and Libre is one of them. It’s the perfect combo of not too sweet and super feminine.
Tell me about shooting the Flower & Flames digital series with Tyler Mitchell. What was the set and shooting like?
Working with Tyler was a dream come true; we had so much fun together! Libre is all about embracing freedom, power, and confidence, and Tyler did an incredible job bringing those feelings out of me. The storytelling was so full circle, shooting in a paradisiacal setting that ties back to the beautiful sun-kissed scent of Libre Flowers & Flames.

What drew you to this iteration of Libre?
Libre Flowers & Flames has such a unique blend of warm and fresh notes, with its hints of coconut, orange blossoms, and vanilla. I love a fragrance that can instantly change your mood but can also last throughout the day.
What’s your scent philosophy? Do you like to mix up what fragrances you wear, or do you have a signature scent?
I wear whatever makes me feel good. I love wearing Libre Flowers & Flames by itself since it evokes that sun-kissed feeling, but I am notorious for mixing perfumes to really get the perfect scent to complement my mood.
How do you spritz on scent?
I like to spray it on my neck and wrists, then spritz all over my clothes to make it last. I keep the travel size with me throughout the day for the perfect midday refresh. When I walk by someone, I want to leave an impression, and Libre Flowers & Flames definitely helps me do that.
Inspired by the tropical and fresh scents in this scent, what destination is your ideal getaway?
Honestly, I love any island or beach getaway where I can unplug and recharge. Feeling the sun on my skin and getting in the water really rejuvenates me.
How does Libre inspire you to live freely and embody the spirit of the fragrance?
For me, Libre is the essence of freedom through the lens of resilience. It inspires me to evolve and use the freedom I have to embrace boldness, self-expression, and creativity. As I spray it each day, it serves as a reminder, and some days we all need that!
