Food Bank of Central New York holds ‘Helping Hands to End Hunger’ volunteering event

This year marks the 40th year the Food Bank of Central New York has helped provide food for families across Central and Northern New York.

To commemorate the Food Bank’s 40th anniversary, hundreds of volunteers will be working around the clock for 40 hours straight at the Food Bank of Central New York Headquarters in Syracuse as part of the “Helping Hands to End Hunger” volunteering event.

Brian McManus, Chief Operating Officer for the Food Bank, said without volunteers, the food bank would simply not be able to help feed thousands of people each day.

“For forty years, volunteers have been instrumental in our ability to provide meals to the hungry in our community,” said McManus. “Every day, we are working with more than 400 community agencies across eleven counties to get food to families in need. Without the volunteers doing things like this, we would not be able to reach all the people we serve. These volunteers are invaluable, and we are celebrating them and our 40th year by doing what we do best, which is working.”

Volunteers participating in the Food Bank of Central New York’s “Helping Hands to End Hunger” began Thursday evening and will continue to help through Saturday morning.
