
Kevin C. Greenlief is set to become the new Director of Finance for Alexandria, starting April 28, 2025.
City Manager James F. Parajon made the announcement on Thursday (April 24) following a nationwide search. Greenlief brings over four decades of public service experience to the table.
Parajon expressed confidence in Greenlief’s abilities, citing his strong leadership, excellent customer service, and deep commitment to Alexandria. He believes Greenlief will continue to strengthen the city’s financial management and long-term planning.
“Kevin has demonstrated steadfast leadership, exceptional customer service and a deep commitment to Alexandria,” said City Manager Parajon. “I am confident in his ability to continue strengthening the City’s financial stewardship and long-term planning.”
For the past nine years, Greenlief has been serving Alexandria as Assistant Director and Deputy Director of Finance, heading the Revenue Division. His role included managing the assessment and collection of various taxes, parking citations, and the Tax Relief Program for the Elderly and Disabled.
Before joining Alexandria, Greenlief spent 20 years as the Director of the Department of Tax Administration in Fairfax County, where he managed over $3 billion in annual revenue.
Greenlief holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and a Master of Public Administration from George Mason University. His impressive list of awards includes the County’s Managerial Excellence Award, GMU’s Wayne F. Anderson Award for Distinguished Public Service, and the 2018 Kate Hanley Public Service Award from Leadership Fairfax.
As an Alexandria resident, Greenlief is actively involved in the community. He’s currently the Vice Chair of Volunteer Alexandria and participates in several professional organizations, including the VML Finance Committee and various state and international assessing associations.
