Tyrone gets first victory of the year

TYRONE — The Tyrone boys tennis team picked up its first win of the season Wednesday, defeating Windber, 4-1, in high school action.

The Golden Eagles (1-13) got singles wins from Ethan Dasher and Caden Harris, along with doubles victories from the team of Logan Harpster-Tyler Weston and Rhys Rawlings-Quin Cowher.

Windber is 0-10.

SINGLES: 1, Constantino, W, def. Walls, 6-4, 6-3; 2, Dasher, T, def. Kozar, 6-3, 6-0; Harris, T, won by forfeit.

DOUBLES: 1, Harpster-Weston, T, def. Dick-Gerula, 6-0, 6-2; 2, Rawlings-Cowher, T, won by forfeit.

D6 singles

State College’s Mark Sandler and Richland’s Nilesh Singh won District 6 boys singles tennis championships Wednesday.

Sandler defeated his teammate, William Liu, to win the District 4-6 Class 3A title in State College, and Singh downed Westmont Hilltop’s Easton Ragno, 6-3, 7-5, to win the District 6 Class 2A crown at Mansion Park.

CLASS 3A: Sandler, State College, def. Liu, State College, 6-2, 6-4.

CLASS 2A: Singh, Richland, def. Ragno, Westmont Hilltop, 6-3, 7-5.
