The Pokémon Company has just announced a new expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket, Celestial Guardians, which is set to be released next week, on April 30, 2025.

Celestial Guardians will be a full expansion like Genetic Apex and Space-Time Smackdown rather than a limited themed expansion like the recent Shining Revelry and Triumphant Light sets. It will launch with two booster packs to open, one for Solgaleo and one for Lunala, the signature Legendary Pokémon from Pokémon Sun and Moon.

The Celestial Guardians expansion will have a big focus on Alolan Pokémon, including the aforementioned Legendary Pokémon, the Alolan first partner Pokémon – Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio – and Alolan forms like Alolan Raichu and Alolan Meowth. It also features Pokémon originally found in Alola, such as Oricorio, which will have its various forms available as separate cards.

The new expansion’s trailer also revealed Trainer cards focused on Trial Leaders from Pokémon Sun and Moon, with effects focused on most available types in the game right now, although they seem to be primarily focused on specific Pokémon cards rather than the type archetypes as a whole. Celestial Guardians will also bring with it the first Immersive Full Art card based on a Trainer card, with a card based on Lillie shown in the trailer.

In addition to the new expansion, The Pokémon Company also revealed in a press release that a new event is coming to the game next week to celebrate Pokémon TCG Pocket’s six-month anniversary. This event, which runs from April 29 to May 12, 2025, will give players the opportunity to earn multiple Rayquaza ex Promo cards, as well as additional cosmetics and other Promo cards.

The Pokémon Company previously promised to overhaul Pokémon TCG Pocket’s controversial trading system, which was met with backlash upon its introduction earlier this year. The changes were said to be coming prior to the end of Fall 2025, and will change the required items for trading and at some point expand the cards available to trade, including the addition of higher rarity cards and limited-time Promo cards. It’s unknown at this stage if the changes to trading will be available alongside Celestial Guardians, or if they’ll come at a later date.
