Wayne Township has partnered with Speedway Animal Rescue to offer help with residents to purchase pet food.
Residents can now head to the Wayne Township Government Center to receive a free bag of dog or cat food after filling out a form proving their residence in the township. There are no income limits for those requesting food.
Wayne Township Trustee Jeb Bardon said the township currently has about six pallets of food and other pet items. Speedway Animal Rescue received them from pet products supplier Chewy, which has a distribution center in Clayton.
“Every two weeks Chewy donates six or seven pallets of stuff that got sent back to the retailer that they can’t put back out on a shelf as new, but they would like to find a good home for,” Bardon said.
Supplies are limited, so they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
To request free pet food
Wayne Township residents can request free pet food and other available supplies from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Wayne Township Government Center, 5401 W. Washington St. For more information, call the Government Center at 317-241-4191.
