Plumas CASA invites community members to Coffee with a CASA, a casual and informative gathering where they can learn how to support children in foster care by becoming a court-appointed special advocate.
Organizers offer two opportunities to connect:
- Every Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at The Coffee House, 384 Main St. in Quincy
- The third Wednesday of each month from 9 to 11 a.m. at Headwaters Bistro and Deli, 620 E. Sierra Ave. in Portola
Attendees can enjoy their first cup of coffee for free while meeting with CASA staff to learn how just a few hours a month can make a lasting impact on a child’s life.
CASAs are trained volunteers appointed by the court to advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. In Plumas County, CASA volunteers often serve as the most consistent adult presence for a child navigating the court system.
“Many people are surprised to learn how impactful — and manageable — this role can be,” says Ashley Simpson, program manager of Plumas CASA. “Coffee with a CASA is a relaxed way to find out more, without pressure.”
Whether attendees are ready to take the next step or simply curious, they’re welcome to stop by, enjoy a warm beverage and discover how advocacy can make a difference, say organizers.
