
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers announced Wednesday the arrest of a former county finance director after an investigation.
Deputies arrested Travis Mitchell Crocker, who had been serving as the Calhoun County Finance Director since November 2024.
On March 24th, finance officials with Calhoun County said they had possibly discovered personal transactions that were inconsistent with normal government use. According to Sheriff Summers, investigators worked and determined that the charges were inappropriate.
“As elected officials, we are held to a higher standard when it comes to the public’s trust,” Sheriff Summers said. “That standard is extended to anyone who is entrusted with tax dollars or authority to act in the interest of our citizens, and when that trust is violated, you will be held to account.”
Crocker is charged with Embezzlement of Public Funds and Misconduct in Office, was was fired from their position has been terminated.
Deputies confirmed Crocker was released on bond with a return to court on May 16th.
