Calhoun County finance director arrested for embezzlement

Travis Mitchell Crocker had been serving as the Calhoun County Finance Director since November 2024.

CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. — Calhoun County deputies on Wednesday announced the arrest of Travis Mitchell Crocker, the now former Calhoun County Finance Director, on charges of embezzlement of public funds and misconduct in office.

The arrest stems from an investigation that began on March 24, 2025, when finance officials reportedly discovered transactions involving county funds that appeared personal in nature.

Once alerted to the situation, Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers said investigators determined that the charges were indeed inappropriate.

“As elected officials, we are held to a higher standard when it comes to the public’s trust. That standard is extended to anyone who is entrusted with tax dollars or authority to act in the interest of our citizens, and when that trust is violated, they will be held to account,” Sheriff Summers said in a statement.

Crocker, who had been serving as the Calhoun County Finance Director since November 2024, was released on bond and terminated by the county. He is set to return to court on May 16, 2025.
