In baseball
Altamont 12, Tuscola 8. A double and three RBI from Caiden Russo and a two-RBI day from Colton Musgrave led the Warriors (6-12) in a nonconference road loss to the Indians, with Russo adding four strikeouts on the mound.
Arcola 13, Arthur Christian 1. Brevyn Whisman‘s four-hit performance included two doubles and powered the Purple Riders (11-0) past the host Conquering Riders in a nonconference tilt. Whisman struck out five batters to help his own cause, while Caiden Helmuth added a double and Tanner Thomas hit a home run to help secure the win.
Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 11, St. Thomas More 3. Zeb Greer had three hits and Brayden Elliott, Trent Wetherell, Parker Baillie and Graydon Leonard evenly combined for eight hits to key the host Falcons (8-6) past the Sabers (5-13) in a nonconference game. Logan Wade had three hits for STM, including a pair of doubles.
LeRoy 8, Argenta-Oreana 1. Three hits from Kobe Brent and two hits apiece from Jack Bogema and Bo Zeleznik made the difference for the Panthers (9-4) in a Heart of Illinois Conference win against the visiting Bombers (8-6).
Rantoul 8, Clinton 2. Dayton Wilson collected three hits, Dalton Gernentz added a pair of singles and Holden Cargo chipped in two hits to pace the host Eagles (7-8) in a nonconference triumph against the Maroons (7-8).
St. Teresa 12, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 4. Three RBI from Maxton Boddy and hits from Will Hilligoss, Kody Burdick, Maddix Stirrett, John Williams and Marcus Otto weren’t enough to lead the Knights (7-8) to a nonconference road win.
Westville 16, Danville 0. Camden Steinbaugh and Matthew Darling each had two hits — with Darling totaling two doubles — while Easton Barney, Chance Quick, Gavin Long and Alec Davis each had two hits for the Tigers (13-1) to round out a nonconference home win. Ace Sumila had the lone hit for the Vikings (2-12).
In softball
Argenta-Oreana 10, St. Thomas More 0. Elyssa Armstrong had herself a day in the circle, tossing a five-inning shutout with seven strikeouts while only allowing two hits in the Bombers’ (8-10) win. Gracie Manning had a big day at the plate, notching three hits and driving in three runs. Audrey Gooding and Sophia Goebel had the Sabers’ (0-8) two hits.
Champaign Central 15, Peoria Richwoods 0. Mya de la Cruz hit a home run as the host Maroons (12-1) cruised past the Knights in a Big 12 contest, with Grace Bandy, Haley Helm, Kaitlyn Helm and Molly Kloeppel hitting doubles, Jalia Davis hitting a triple and Haley Helm striking out seven batters in four innings.
Hoopeston Area 8, Milford/Cissna Park 7. Peyton Irons drove the Cornjerkers’ (5-7) offense with three hits, including a home run, and three RBI. Viviana Zamarripa added three hits of her own in the winning effort. Meanwhile, the Bearcats’ (8-6) struggles continue, as they’ve now lost five of their last six.
Oakwood 12, Covington (Ind.) 2. Five innings were all that were necessary for the Comets (9-7-1) in an interstate win that was buoyed by Caydence Vermillion‘s eight-strikeout effort, three hits from Emberlyn Schull and two hits apiece from Bella Bradford and Irene Rangel.
Unity 13, Fisher 0. The power swing showed up for the Rockets (16-3) yet again, as Lindy Bates and Sophia Beckett hit home runs. Those two, along with Jenna Adkins, paced the offense with a combined eight hits and nine RBI. Danika Eisenmenger and Korina Finical combined for the five-inning shutout in the circle. Addison Schulze was tagged with the loss for the Bunnies (6-7-1), and she accounted for one of the team’s four hits.
Danville 17, Urbana 1. Four hits from Ka’Leah Bellik and five strikeouts from Kendall Rannebarger in the circle helped the Vikings (6-6) down the Tigers (1-9) in a Big 12 contest in Urbana.
Villa Grove 9, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 5. Two hits apiece from Izzy Dodd, Piper Kiser and Ella Schweighart — plus a double from Kinleigh Pellum — helped the Blue Devils (8-3) catalog a nonconference win against the host Falcons. Taylor Beck led GCMS (8-10) with a home run and a double.
Westville 7, Monticello 4. Home runs from Taylor Valangeon and Laney Cook helped the Tigers (17-2) power past the visiting Sages (14-4) in a nonconference clash, with Peyton Sabalaskey and Lilly Kiesel hitting doubles to round out a stout offensive showing. Cassidee Stoffel and Sadie Walsh hit doubles for Monticello, which also received a home run from Lucy Leatherwood.
In girls’ soccer
Champaign Central 4, Urbana 1. A hat trick from Rylie Schulze and a score from Helen Fisher helped the Maroons (7-4) catalog a win against the Tigers in Big 12 Conference play, with Eve O’Brien adding three saves. Savannah Finley scored the lone goal for the Tigers (4-5), who also got three saves from Anayeli Pablo.
Danville 5, Peoria Manual 0. Teams only played one half due to weather concerns, but that’s all the Vikings (8-7) needed to earn a convincing win. Lindsey Porter and Maya Towne both scored two goals, and Reese Rundle added on of her own. Aliya Morgan, Rundle and Lili Dowers all recorded assists.
Normal U-High 2, Centennial 0. Kate Pitcher had 23 saves as the Chargers (8-7-1) lost to the visiting Pioneers in nonconference play.
Uni High 6, St. Teresa 1. Two goals apiece from Khuyen Nguyen and Lucia Menegon-Garcia keyed a nonconfernece win for the host Illineks (2-12), who also received goals from Annika Deschler, Grace Arend, Jane McCumber and Sarisa Chansilp. Gabby Mongwa recorded three saves to help Uni High’s cause.
In girls’ track and field
At Danville. Host Danville scored 200 points to best Champaign Central (143), Urbana (90) and Schlarman (42) in a quad meet. The Vikings’ Jamia Esther won the 100 meter dash in 12.33 seconds and the 200 dash in 25.89, Stephanie Sykes won the 400 run in 1:03.70, Makhiya Gibson won the 100 hurdles in 19.28, Jada Bell won the discus at 116 feet and 2 inches, Samantha Brown won the pole vault at 11 feet and 8 inches and the triple jump at 35 feet and 8 1/2 inches. Champaign Central’s Emma Konstanty won the 800 run in 2:43.23 and Milka Bwandundu won the 300 hurdles in 49.83. Urbana’s wins came from Marley Yau in the 1600 meter run at 5:43.44, Lillian DiSanto in the shot put at 34 feet and 4 1/4 inches and Honor Dillon in the long jump at 14 feet and 9 3/4 inches.
At St. Joseph. Unity carded 103 points to beat Mahomet-Seymour (67), host St. Joseph-Ogden (62) and Mt. Zion (9) in a four-team meet, with the Rockets’ Emma Swisher winning the 200 meter dash in 26.28 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 51.25, Lauren Shaw winning the shot put with a throw of 34 feet and 8 1/2 inches and the discus at 112 feet and 6 inches, Ashlyn Denney winning the 800 run in 2:17.12, Mackenzie Pound winning the 1600 run in 5:28.22 and Grace Wherley winning the high jump at 4 feet and 9 1/2 inches. Mahomet-Seymour’s Ava Kersh won the 100 dash in 13.72, Madalyn Marx won the 400 run in 57.35, Cecily Smith won the pole vault at 11 feet and 6 1/4 inches and Hannah Martin won the triple jump at 32 feet and 11 1/4 inches. St. Joseph-Ogden’s Atleigh Miller won the long jump at 16 feet and 3 3/4 inches.
