Trump criticized for showing assassination trading cards to kids at White House

After a snapshot emerged showing President Donald Trump displaying what appeared to be a trading card of himself shortly after an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, users across social media platforms have sharpened their criticism against him.

In said image, President Trump is seen pulling a grimace while holding a plastic-encased card during the White House Easter Egg Roll that took place Monday. In this event, the 47th president spent time coloring eggs with the children in attendance.

But not all observers appreciated the presidential gesture.

Social media erupted with disapproval, one user exclaiming, “WTH? Children did not need to see the picture of him after he was shot,” Frustration continued with another adding, “Ah, the pic of the staged event we have to see on every profile on this platform. Did he tell them about his miracle ear? What happened to that investigation?”

The sarcasm intensified when another individual quipped, “I’d imagine he is telling those kids how evil democrats tried to kill him but he is hard to kill,” and didn’t miss mentioning, “He also mentioned how brave he was to survive a bullet,” reports the Irish Star.

DON’T MISS

The debate was further entangled with comments on Trump’s expression:”Not sure what’s more disturbing, the card or the look on his face,” noted a fourth critic. Contrarily, some people were less perturbed by the photo, with one person shrugging it off, saying: “I don’t know what the big deal is,” adding humorously, “If Easter is nothing else, it’s the story of a failed assassination attempt.

“Somehow both cute and the most psychotic thing I’ve ever seen,” a second observer commented. The picture was reportedly captured when the president seemed to have a brief lapse as a young girl tried to high-five him during the event.

Trump spent Monday mingling with the Easter Egg crowd on the South Lawn, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, who made a rare public appearance. In the video, the girl can be seen holding up her hand for a few seconds, waiting for Trump to reciprocate the high-five.

When Trump didn’t respond immediately, she lowered her hand before trying once more, this time successfully getting a response from the president. While Democrats tried to spin this moment as evidence of the president’s senility, their narrative was drowned out by an influx of MAGA supporters who flooded social media with positive reactions, dubbing the child a “lucky girl.

“That’s the kind of moment you can’t fake. One high five from Trump means more to that little girl than a thousand staged Biden photo ops or Kamala’s cackling speeches. It’s real. It’s human. It’s America First in action,” a popular social media account stated. “What a relief to have a president that isn’t sniffing kids,” another user wrote, making a veiled reference to former President Joe Biden, who was allegedly caught “sniffing and nibbling” at children during a White House trick-or-treat event in 2024.

During his opening speech, Trump mentioned that they were anticipating a crowd of around 42,000 people throughout the day. He also announced that the flag would be flown at half-staff in memory of Pope Francis who had recently passed away.

“Easter is special, and it’s one of our favorite days. It’s one of our favorite periods of time. We’re honoring Jesus Christ, and we’re going to honor Jesus Christ very powerfully throughout our lives,” Trump declared.

“We’re bringing religion back in America. We’re bringing a lot of things back, but religion is coming back to America,” he further stated. The theme of the 2025 egg roll was chosen to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.

Children were spotted signing miniature versions of the Declaration of Independence, dressed as the Founding Fathers. At 11 a.m., the president addressed reporters before blowing a whistle to kick off a race for children participating in the annual egg roll.
