A large food cart pod equipped with a full bar, coffee shop and vintage game room has opened up in Southeast Portland.
Brooklyn Carreta — named for its post in the Brooklyn neighborhood and the popular Mexican restaurant that used to occupy the site — is the latest addition to Portland’s bustling food cart scene. It’s located at 4534 S.E. McLoughlin Blvd. in the former La Carreta space.

The pod will boast 18 food vendors, according to its website and social media. Customers can dine either indoors or outdoors. Courtyard seating is partially covered and includes overhead heaters and a fire pit.

Inside, there’s the bar — selling cocktails, wine, beer and slushies — and Moody’s Coffee, which offers drinks and pastries. There’s also a video wall primed for sports broadcasts and a retro game room with pinball machines.
A formal grand opening is still to come, but Brooklyn Carreta opened its bar, coffee shop and a handful of food carts earlier this month. The pod is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., though hours vary for individual carts and Moody’s Coffee.

Brooklyn Carreta fills the space that previously belonged to La Carreta, a restaurant that served up Mexican fare and mariachi music for 30 years before shutting down in 2022.
The new food cart pod pays homage to La Carreta’s legacy in more than just its name (“Carreta,” conveniently, is Spanish for “cart”). Wood from the original restaurant was repurposed to create some of the pod’s tables, benches and bar.
And for those who may miss La Carreta’s signature fishbowl margaritas, Brooklyn Carreta’s bar menu makes sure to offer a couple of massive, boozy drinks of its own.
Brooklyn Carreta is a project led by Lloyd Development, which plans to open another food cart pod in Northeast Portland’s Hollywood neighborhood next spring.
