CHAMPAIGN — The European pipeline to Champaign is continuing.
Jonathan Givony of ESPN posted on social media on Tuesday afternoon that point guard Mihailo Petrovic has committed to the Illinois men’s basketball program.
Petrovic is a 22-year-old native of Serbia who is playing with Mega Superbet in the Adriatic League. The 6-foot-3 Petrovic is averaging 14.3 points and 7.3 assists with Mega Superbet and is coming off arguably two of his best performances of the season in the last week. He had 26 points, nine assists and five rebounds in a win against Spartak on April 15 and put up 28 points and 13 assists Monday in a win against Cibona.
Petrovic joins Zvonimir Ivisic, who transferred from Arkansas, and David Mirkovic, an incoming freshman from Montenegro, as new European players the Illini have added in the past month since their season ended on March 23 in a second-round NCAA tournament loss against Kentucky.
Petrovic shares the same agent, Misko Raznatovic, as Mirkovic and Zvonimir Ivisic and Tomislav Ivisic. The Ivisic twins, who are both from Croatia, will team up together with the Illini next season after Tomislav became an integral starter to Illinois during the 2024-25 season, averaging 13.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
The addition of Petrovic comes after Illinois lost its point guard last season, Kasparas Jakucionis, to the upcoming NBA draft. Jakucionis, a native of Lithuania, is a projected first-round NBA draft pick when the draft unfolds in late June after he averaged 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists during his lone season at Illinois.
