AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Tuesday is Earth Day, and in celebration of it, volunteers at Golden Harvest Food Bank’s Urban Farm are helping give back.
Volunteers from Bank of America paid a visit to the Master’s Table Soup Kitchen and planted fresh crops at the urban farm.
Volunteers helped plant, weed, and harvest produce to help serve meals at the Master’s Table Soup Kitchen.

“This garden is essential to providing the Master’s Table Soup Kitchen with fresh vegetables,” said Marissa Smith, a marketing executive with Bank of America. They serve over 300 meals daily to our most vulnerable neighbors in need, and we are just so grateful to be able to have such an amazing partner that’s fighting hunger in our community.”
Smith says this is also a part of the Global Service Month for Bank of America, helping give back to communities.
We also spoke with Golden Harvest Food Bank, which says this is helpful, especially after Hurricane Helene hit.
“It’s really helpful for the food bank,” said Sarah Mitchell, Urban Farm manager. “During times like these, food banks are really important. None of us expected to be hit by a hurricane seven months ago, so all of a sudden you are faced with having to throw away all to the food in your refrigerator, and the grocery store may not have the supply to make up for what you need to get rid of so that’s when the food bank comes in handy.”
Smith also emphasized the overall importance of the work done at the urban farm.
“The vegetables that are harvested from this farm are straight from farm to table, so I just encourage anyone who has a passion for the outdoors or a passion for fighting hunger in our community to come out, volunteer, get your hands dirty and have fun,” said Smith.
Smith says since 2022, Bank of America has donated over $55,000 in support of the urban farm.
