The case against a former Milwaukee Public Schools board member will head to trial. Aisha Carr was in court on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 13.

Aisha Carr, a former Milwaukee Public Schools board member who last year was accused of fraud and misconduct, is now facing campaign finance charges.
Milwaukee County prosecutors filed charges against Carr, 37, on April 22.
They result from an investigation that was conducted during her time as District 4 board director, from 2021 until May 2024, when she abruptly resigned.
Prosecutors allege in a 30-page criminal complaint that Carr filed fraudulent campaign finance reports and misappropriated campaign funds from it for her personal use.
As a candidate, Carr was required to file a Campaign Finance Registration Statement through her committee, Aisha Carr for Milwaukee. She also had to designate someone as treasurer.
A treasurer was named, identified as “LM” in court documents, and a campaign depository account was created at Wells Fargo Bank.
Bank records and campaign finance documents show Carr committed “unauthorized use of LM’s personally identifying information;” LM told investigators they never agreed to be treasurer, nor did they sign the forms, the complaint reads.
Prosecutors say in the complaint Carr’s campaign finance reports were false and contained inaccurate information regarding her campaign account balances and her disbursements.
It’s not clear when Carr was due to be in court to answer the latest charges.
Carr also is facing felony charges of misconduct in office and theft by false representation.
Those charges stemmed from allegations that Carr lied about living in the district she represented for the MPS school board and received payment for her service despite being ineligible. State law requires school board members to live in the district they represent.
