Christian McCaffrey injury update is great news for 49ers

San Francisco got a terrific injury update on star running back Christian McCaffrey on Tuesday afternoon.

The 49ers running back said he has no restrictions from previous injuries and is participating fully in the offseason program.

“I’m feeling great. It’s been such a smooth process, a lot of hard work. As soon as that injury happened in Buffalo, this was my goal, to not miss a day of OTAs and to be back ready to go with nothing hindering me and that’s where I’m at.

“It went by pretty quickly but I got to a point pretty quickly in the offseason where I was training full speed, ready to go,” McCaffrey said.

After a massive 2023 season, McCaffrey was limited to just four games in 2024 as he dealt with bilateral Achilles tendinitis that cost him the season’s first eight games and then a posterior cruciate ligament injury on his right knee that ended his 2024 campaign.

McCaffrey finished with just 202 rushing yards on 50 carries and 15 catches for 146 yards. In 2023, McCaffrey was the NFL Offensive Player of the Year after he racked up 2,023 total yards rushing and receiving with 21 touchdowns.

A healthy McCaffrey for the entirety of offseason activities could be one of the first steps back to NFC West and Super Bowl contention for the 49ers after a disappointing 6-11 finish a season ago.
