Meghan Markle unveils huge fashion faux pas – and it’s something many of us do

Meghan Markle, just like us? It seems so!

In the third episode of her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, which aired on Tuesday, the Duchess of Sussex invited her friend and celebrity hair colorist Kadi Lee, owner of the renowned Highbrow Hippie hair salon in Los Angeles.

As usual, Meghan, 43, and her guest covered a range of topics, but it was a very relatable fashion mishap that really sparked the conversation.

The former Suits actress shared a funny story about how she first met Kadi, leading her to remember a humorous self-made mistake.

“So my family had just moved to California, we were staying at our friend’s house because of the pandemic,” Meghan started.

“I kept ordering boxed hair dye thinking, ‘I’m gonna look just like the woman on the box,’” she confessed.

Unfortunately for Meghan, things didn’t go as planned. “Instead, I ended up with this very inky, almost Elvira black hair,” the mother of two revealed, laughing.

As a result, Meghan recalled: ‘I texted Serge [Normant] and he said, ‘You need to see Kadi [Lee],’ and you came over!”

The conversation took a serious and candid turn when the actress-turned lifestyle guru discussed the launch of her brand, As Ever, earlier this month.

“Okay, real talk. Running a business is a lot,” she confessed, highlighting the challenges, Meghan continued: “Building something new is a long road of making decisions in the dark and then holding this vision in your head when no one else can even see it yet. It can be slow, it can be scrappy, it can be exhausting.”

Meghan referred to the journey of her brand As Ever as “a process” and admitted that she had “no roadmap” for guidance.”There’s no manual and if you knew how hard it would get, you might hesitate to start at all,” she remarked.

Despite the difficulties, Meghan affirmed that the effort was worthwhile, noting: “That initial bravado, that initial going in like, ‘I’ve got this,’ maybe it’s essential,” she reflected. In the same discussion, Meghan touched on the decision to rebrand from American Riviera Orchard to As Ever.”

I had secured As Ever as a name in 2022, and then as everything started to evolve last year, and bringing in a partner the size that it was, it was just so interesting,” she explained. She elaborated, “You remember, I said, ‘I like American Riviera as an umbrella,’ and then be able to have verticals beneath it.

And maybe have the ‘Orchard’ really small. But when that’s not feasible … suddenly it became this word salad.

I didn’t love that so much. “I was like, ‘OK, let’s go back to the thing that I’ve always loved.

Let’s use the name that I protected for a reason that had sort of been under wraps,’” she concluded. “And then we were able to focus in the quiet and put our heads down and build on something that no one was sniffing around to even see about. It was really just helpful to have that quiet period.”
