Light in the Storm car show returns to White House Apr. 27 – Main Street Media of Tennessee

Over 300 cars in 25 different judging categories will be featured at Light in the Storm’s third annual fundraiser car show on Apr. 27. SUBMITTED

This Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., hundreds of classic and custom cars will be on display at the W.L Anderson Sports Complex in White House for a car show benefiting Light in the Storm Disaster Relief Ministries, a non-profit serving victims in the aftermath of natural disasters.

Since 2022, Light in the Storm has traveled across the Southeast offering assistance to communities devastated by severe storms. The organization was created by founder and director Johnny Rodman, a White House native and former member of the Air Force. He initially developed a passion for disaster relief while recovering from an injury with the VA and seeing the tornado damage from the storms that hit Mayfield, Ky. in December of 2021.

According to Rodman, over the past year Light in the Storm has been to a number of storm disasters in Tennessee and neighboring states, most notably in western North Carolina after the severe flooding from Hurricane Helene.

“Since October 4 we’ve been working that disaster, and we’re just now getting towards the end because we’re rebuilding an entire home for a victim,” Rodman said. “We’ve also been to the east Kentucky flooding that happened recently for a couple of weeks. We’re still doing some other disasters, but our main projects have been in western North Carolina.”

With a volunteer pool that can range from 40 to as large as 1,200 people, the organization offers cleanup, brush removal, and tree removal. They also clean out mud and debris from affected homes, all free of charge to its residents.

Since he also works as a mechanic and has a passion for cars, Rodman came up with the idea of hosting a car show to serve as a fundraiser. After last year’s show held at Tate Ornamental featured over 100 cars, this year’s event is planned to be even bigger.

With a new host site at the W.L Anderson Sports Complex, located at 2760 Hwy. 31W in White House, the upcoming show is expected to feature between 300-400 cars and will offer public voting for up to 25 different prize categories and trophies.

While there is no pre-registration required for anyone wanting to display their car, Rodman says they are using a company called Car Show Pro to register on its website. A manual registration line will be available for those that choose to register their car the day of the show.

Instead of manual ballots, visitors can vote on the cars by scanning a QR code with their phones. Voting will be open throughout the day until 4 pm.

“For the people that are preregistered, they will pull up, we’ll ask for their name and then print off their form for people to scan a QR code,” Rodman said. “People can just pull up their cell phone, won’t have to download an app, and just scan and vote. The owner of the vehicle can also choose what category he wants to be in.”

In addition to the car show, a stage with live music featuring local Christian artists will be on hand, including five food trucks and sever other retail vendors. Instead of raffle tickets, a silent auction will also be taking place.

Multiple sponsorships have the opportunity to be a part of the festivities as well. This year’s event will feature a presenting sponsor for the first time, Specialty Motors. Other available sponsorships are the Gold Sponsor, which includes a premium booth in the front of the venue space and the sponsor’s logo featured on the event stage and banners, and a $250 Community Sponsor.
