Iowa State football: Rocco Becht on growing as a leader for Cyclones
Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht wants to be an even bigger leader for the Cyclones this year.
Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht has a history of putting his NIL (name, image and likeness) earnings to good use.
Last summer, the 21-year-old donated $7,500 to the Perry Youth Football program and hosted a free football camp for nearly 100 students.
Becht has continued his generous ways by donating new video game consoles to every pediatric room at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Patients and their families will now have access to an Xbox Series X along with select games, according to a Facebook post from Mary Greeley on April 18.
“Ever since I came to Ames and Iowa State, it has been such a blessing for me to go out on the field and play for the fans,” Becht said in the Mary Greeley post. “By making this gift to the Pediatric Unit, it was a way for me to give back to the community of Ames for all that they have done for me.”
Brent Blum, executive director of the We Will Collective, which helps support Iowa State athletics, stated that the video game consoles were covered by a portion of Becht’s NIL earnings. An Xbox Series X retails for $499.99, according to Microsoft.
Becht will return as the Cyclones’ starting quarterback for the third consecutive season. Over the past two seasons, he has accounted for over 7,000 yards of offense and 59 touchdowns, while leading Iowa State to an 18-9 record.
Iowa State heads to Ireland in 2025
The Cyclones are fresh off one of the best seasons in school history, compiling an 11-3 record in 2024, punctuated by a thrilling, 42-41 win over Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
Iowa State opens the 2025 slate on Aug. 23 in Dublin, Ireland, against Big 12 rival Kansas State. The Cyclones will host their home opener the following week, August 30, against South Dakota.
