BOISE, Idaho — The Boise School District announced Monday it will offer free meals to children and teens this summer through the federally funded Summer Food Service Program.
The program, which runs June 3 through August 8, will provide breakfast and lunch to all children ages 1-18, regardless of family income or school enrollment status.
“Our schools are more than just places of learning,” said Lisa Roberts, Superintendent of the Boise School District. “They are trusted community centers where children and families find support.”
District officials said meals will be available at multiple schools and parks throughout Boise, with varying service times and dates depending on the site. The initiative aims to bridge the nutritional gap when school is not in session.
The district, which has operated summer meal sites for decades, emphasized that the program serves thousands of meals each summer and is open to all children in the community, not just those enrolled in district schools.
The Summer Food Service Program complements the district’s existing free breakfast program, which currently provides morning meals at all schools. Elementary schools offer breakfast either before school starts or in classrooms after school begins.
