South Carolina couple lied to get more food stamps for their family, warrants say

A couple in South Carolina have been arrested as part of a food stamp fraud investigation. On March 31 , Dennis Lee Phillips Jr., 42, and Jennifer Nichole Phillips, 44, were each charged with fraudulent acquisition or use of food stamps, greater than $10,000.Both individuals were booked at the Beaufort County Detention Center.An arrest warrant said the couple did not report Jennifer Phillips’ income and were able to fraudulently get more than $20,000 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The case will be prosecuted by the 14th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
