FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash. – The Franklin County Board of Commissioners has taken a firm stance against men competing in women’s sports, as outlined in a recent resolution.
The commissioners emphasized the importance of co-curricular activities and youth sports, highlighting the life lessons they provide and the right of children in Franklin County to safely participate in their chosen sport or activity.
“Men and women are not equal. And when we put biological men in competition with women, it is not fair, it is not proper, it is not equal. And the people that believe that’s right should be ashamed of themselves,” County Commissioner Stephen Bauman testified in support of the resolution on Wednesday, April 16.
The board expressed concerns over educational institutions and athletic associations allowing men to compete in women’s sports, calling it “demeaning, unfair, and dangerous” to women and girls. They believe this practice denies women and girls equal opportunities to participate and excel in competitive sports.
Citing Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, the commissioners noted that educational institutions receiving federal funds cannot deny women equal opportunity in sports. They argued that ignoring fundamental biological differences deprives women and girls of meaningful access to educational facilities.
As part of their resolution, the Franklin County Commissioners stated their commitment to protecting young women and their privacy, as well as ensuring fairness in sports.
“As a county, we got to stand against this. And we got to make it known that we will not go along with men competing in women’s sports,” County Commissioner Clint Didier added.
