FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A ‘Day of Action’ rally and food drive was held in downtown Fort Wayne on Saturday.
From 12 to 2 p.m., community members and organizations gathered on the Allen County Courthouse lawn to ‘bring attention to the harmful actions of DOGE and the Trump Administration as they continue to dismantle the federal government and chip away at the rights of Americans.’
Protest participants were asked to bring non-perishable food items to be collected for community food banks to support both the community and their cause.
The rally was made possible by League of Women Voters Fort Wayne, Women United for Progress Allen County, Democratic Women’s Club of Allen County, Allen County Young Democrats, Allen County Democratic Party, Fuerza Unida, and Indivisible Northeast Indiana.
“It’s time that we stand up and demand accountability from our elected officials,” said Jim Carpenter of Indivisible Northeast Indiana. “DOGE cuts are harming American families, and this administration is undermining America on the world stage.”
21Alive reached out to Allen County Republican Party Chair Steve Shine for a statement regarding the rally. He referred us to a statement he made to a similar protest held on April 5. That statement reads as follows:
