22nd annual Lufkin Easter Eggstravaganza brings kids, families together

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) – There was no hiding from the group of kids that hit the ground running at Lufkin’s 22nd annual Easter Eggstravaganza.

Lufkin Parks and Recreation puts this event on every year, and this year it was held at Morris Frank Park, utilizing their new multipurpose turf fields.

“We really understand the fact that a sense of community is offering free or low-cost events to our community, so that they can come and build bonds and relationships with their families, without having to worry about that financial burden,” said Lufkin Deputy Director of Recreation Rudy Flores.

The free event offered bounce houses, prizes, free food, and most important of all, big easter egg hunts every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We did a hunt for each age group starting from zero all the way to 12 years old. They’re pre-filled with candy; we got a little smart. We don’t want to fill 13,000 easter eggs with candy; so they come pre-filled, so it’s just some of the favorites that kids enjoy that are in those easter eggs,” said Flores.

This is the first year the Eggstravaganza was held at Morris Frank Park since the park’s turf field was upgraded last year.

The Easter bunny also stood by for photo ops with kids and their families.

“I really hope that they put this into their memory bank, that kids really take into account what they did today. We hope to be able to continue to do this each year, and we’ll see you next year,” said Flores.
