Texas Plays Things Safe – Except For Eating Spoiled Food

A new study shows that while Texans may have a lot of braggadocio, we actually tend to be pretty cautious. Except for …

Texans will take up any challenge but when it comes to everyday gambles, we’re fairly careful. I’m talking about unsafe things like running red lights, riding with strangers and other things that could go south.

The peeps at deadspin.com interviewed 2,500 people across the USA to see where all the daredevils are and Texas didn’t come back too crazy. (Even though that’s what Texas means in New Zealand.) Except when it comes to spoiled food.

Texas was the 8th most “cautious” of the 41 states included in the survey. When it comes to full on, YOLO craziness, West Virginia is numero uno. Especially when it comes to taking shortcuts through dark alley’s and speeding.

Texans do like to eat expired food though which, as anyone who ever got bad veggies in their taco or soured dairy can tell you, will leave you hating life. That’s why a certain restaurant specializing in rolled tacos is forever off my list.

Granted, we’re not talking rancid, maggot infested meat or anything with an inch of green mold on it but 66% of the Texans surveyed admitted to ignoring expiration dates. Montana had the most suicide diners overall.

Other Risky Ventures And Who Does ‘Em Most:

  • Most people running red lights: Montana
  • Most people taking shortcuts through dark alleys: West Virginia
  • Most people getting into a stranger’s car: Connecticut
  • Most people exceeding the speed limit: West Virginia
  • Most people eating expired food: Montana
  • Most people postponing doctor or dentist visits: Utah
  • Most people using their phone in traffic: North Dakota, Rhode Island
  • Most people taking risks for the perfect photo: Iowa – deadspin

As far as expired food goes; yeah … I’m one of the 66%. I live by the 5 second rule too.

31 Foods That People Should Never Put In The Freezer

It’s always a difficult decision to throw away food because it seems so wasteful, not to mention the cost groceries make it seem like you’re throwing money away.

That’s why when we have leftovers or cook a large batch of food, it’s tempting to preserve it by throwing it in the freezer. While that can work for some of the food you enjoy, the freezer can’t save everything. In fact, sometimes it can make the food we put into it worse.

According to LoveFood, here are 31 foods that should never be stored in your freezer.
